PROFESSIONAL & PROTECTIVE HEADWEAR
Compton Webb™ (originally J Compton & Sons) were founded in 1899 and rapidly earned a reputation for high quality military headwear and clothing. One of our earliest contracts was for the provision of the Service Dress Cap both before and during WW1. The Compton Webb™ The Oxfordshire factory was established in 1939 and has been making many of the world’s iconic and ceremonial forces’ headwear ever since.
Sister company Christy and Co, founded in 1773 and now based in the same factory, also has a long and proud history designing and manufacturing hats and helmets for police and military personnel. Indeed many of the 19th Century tenders for the headwear of Britain’s new Police Forces (the first being the Metropolitan Police founded in 1829) were won by Christys.
Our headwear remains on active service both in the UK and internationally, and takes pride of place in many police and military museums around the country
Compton Webb ™ (CW) Headdress and Christy & Co, have been sister companies, operating from the same manufacturing site in Witney, Oxforshire since the start of the new Millennium. We have a remarkable history inventing, designing and crafting some of the most iconic police, military and corporate headgear in the world. From the British Police helmet, the Canadian Mounties felt hat to fine ceremonial headgear for the world’s armed forces – CW Headdress and Christys’ Professional Hats have set the standard for over 100 years.
ISO9001, accreditation along with SMETA & SEDEX certification underlines our focus on the quality of the product as well as the quality of our processes and customer service.
